Garage Door Masters KC answers garage door emergencies 24/7 across the Kansas City metro — nights, weekends, and holidays. A door that won't close leaves your home or business exposed; a door with a broken spring trapping the car inside means you can't get to work. These are real emergencies, and we treat them that way. When you call after hours, a real local crew member picks up — not a call center, not a voicemail, not an answering service. We give you an honest arrival window and tell you what to expect before you commit. Kansas City winters mean we run after-hours spring calls every January and February; summers bring storm-damaged panels and sensor problems from power surges. Most emergency repairs — springs, cables, openers — finish in one after-hours visit. There is no after-hours premium — the $79 service call applies day or night.

Our tech answered, was at our house in 30 minutes, and had it fixed within the hour. Smart, friendly, skilled.

When to call us right away

Call immediately if the door is stuck open and won't secure, a spring has snapped, the door is hanging off its track, or it slammed shut and won't reopen. We'll talk you through making it safe and get a technician moving.

  • Door stuck open — home and cars exposed
  • Broken spring with a car trapped inside
  • Door off-track or hanging dangerously
  • Door won't latch or secure overnight

True emergency vs. can it wait until morning

Not every garage door problem needs a 2 a.m. call, but some absolutely do. If your door is stuck open and can't be secured — your home, cars and tools are exposed to anyone walking by — that's an emergency, full stop. So is a door that's completely off its track and hanging at an angle, or a door where the opener runs but the door doesn't move (that usually means a spring broke and a cable could let go at any point). On the other hand, a noisy door, a slow door, or an opener that's glitchy but still closes the door can safely wait until morning. If you're not sure, call us anyway — we'd rather you call at midnight and find out it can wait than spend the night with an open garage.

How KC weather creates garage door emergencies

Kansas City winters are hard on garage door hardware in specific ways. Torsion springs are made of high-carbon steel and lose elasticity in extreme cold, which is why spring failures spike during hard cold snaps — a spring that was holding on through November often lets go on the first night it drops below 10°F. The weatherseal along the bottom of the door can freeze to the concrete pad overnight and tear when the opener fires in the morning, leaving the bottom gap open to the elements. In ice storms, ice in the tracks or around the panels can freeze the door shut, and forcing it bends tracks or snaps springs. Summer heat is easier on springs but kills opener circuit boards and dries out seals. We know these seasonal patterns across the metro and stock parts accordingly — even on the busiest emergency nights of the year, the first hard freeze or a major ice event, we usually have what we need on the truck.

A real local crew answers — not a call center

The thing about a garage door emergency is that it never happens at a convenient time. A door frozen open at midnight leaves your home and cars exposed; a snapped spring before work traps the car and wrecks your morning. When you call us after hours, a real local person answers — not an out-of-state answering service that takes a message and sends whoever's available tomorrow. We'll get a tech to you as fast as we safely can.

Make it safe while you wait

If your spring broke or the door is off-track, don't keep hitting the opener — forcing it can snap a cable, burn out the motor, or drop the door. Disconnect the opener with the emergency-release pull only if the door is fully down and you can do it safely, and keep kids and pets clear. If the door is stuck open and you can't secure it, call us right away so we can prioritize getting your home buttoned up.

After-hours pricing — no surprises

Emergency calls often come with a fear of being gouged, and that's a reasonable concern given how some companies operate. Our policy is the same day or night: the service call is $79 — the honest version of a trip fee — and it goes toward the job when we do the work the same visit, so you're not paying twice. No after-hours surcharge, no multiplied rate at 11 p.m., no different pricing because it's a Sunday. We'll tell you the exact price before any work starts — at 2 a.m. the same as at 2 p.m. — and you decide. Some repairs cost more because of the parts involved (a broken torsion spring costs what it costs), but the call fee and our quoting process are identical around the clock.

What to tell us when you call

You don't need to diagnose the door — that's our job — but a few details help us get the right parts to your driveway the first time. Tell us: whether the door is stuck open or closed, what sound it made before it stopped working (a loud bang usually means a spring; grinding usually means the opener or rollers), whether the opener motor runs but the door doesn't move, and roughly when the door or opener was installed. We'll ask a quick follow-up or two, tell you what we think is wrong and let you know how fast we can get there. That's the whole call.

Same-day and 24/7 across the metro

We cover the whole Kansas City metro, KS and MO, and keep the common springs, cables and opener parts on every truck — so even an emergency call is usually a one-visit fix. You still get honest, up-front pricing: we tell you the price before any work starts, even at 2 a.m.

How a visit works

We keep it simple and honest. You call or book online and we give you a window, then we call ahead 10–30 minutes before we arrive (if we can't reach you, we text). The tech diagnoses your door on the spot, explains what's going on in plain language, and gives you the full, flat-rate price before any work starts — so there are never surprises on the invoice.

  1. Call or book — a real local person answers, 7 days a week
  2. We confirm a window and call ahead before we arrive
  3. On-site diagnosis with honest, up-front pricing — you approve before we start
  4. Most jobs finished the same visit — common parts ride on every truck
  5. A 30-point safety check and a balance test before we leave

Good questions

Questions about emergency 24/7 repair.

Do you really answer 24/7?+
Yes — a real local person answers after hours, not an out-of-state call center. We'll get a tech to you as fast as we safely can.
My door is stuck open and won't close — what now?+
Call us right away. Don't keep hitting the opener; we'll diagnose whether it's a sensor, a spring or the opener and secure the door.
Is there an after-hours surcharge for emergency calls?+
No. Our service call is $79 and it goes toward the job when we do the work the same visit — same rate day or night, weekday or weekend. We tell you the price before any work starts, so there are no surprises at the end.
My door froze shut overnight. Is that an emergency?+
It depends. If the car is trapped and you need it, call us — we'll prioritize it. If you can get around it until morning, it can usually wait. Either way, don't try to force it: the weatherseal can tear and the tracks or spring can be damaged when you try to break a frozen door loose. Call us and we'll walk you through the safest option.
How do I know if it's the spring or the opener?+
The easiest check: pull the red emergency-release cord to disconnect the opener (only when the door is fully closed), then try to lift the door by hand. If it lifts easily, the spring is fine and the opener is likely the problem. If it won't budge or feels like you're lifting a car, the spring is broken — do not force it. A broken spring often announces itself with a loud bang, a visible gap in the coil above the door, or the door dropping crookedly.
Can you really fix it in one visit even after hours?+
Most of the time, yes. The common emergency parts — torsion springs in standard KC-home sizes, lift cables, opener drive gears and safety sensors — ride on every truck. If it's an unusual part we don't carry, we'll make the door safe for the night and return to finish the next day at no additional call fee.
My car is stuck inside the garage — the door won't open. What do I do right now?+
Pull the red emergency release cord hanging from the opener trolley straight down — this disconnects the door from the opener so you can lift it manually. If the spring is intact and the door is balanced, it should lift with moderate effort and stay up. If it's very heavy or won't stay open, the spring may be broken — in that case lift the door just enough to clear the car, prop it with a 2×4 or piece of wood, and then call us. Do not stand under an unsupported door. If you can't safely open the door, leave through the house or a window and call (913) 731-0190. We answer 24/7 and treat stuck-in-garage calls as urgent.
A vehicle hit my garage door and now it won't close — does that count as an emergency?+
Yes — an open garage you can't secure is a security emergency, not just a repair inconvenience. A door that's been struck typically has a bent track, damaged panel, or derailed rollers that prevent closure. Until it's fixed, your home is exposed. Call us at (913) 731-0190 and describe the damage. Depending on the extent, we either reset and realign the door in one visit or temporarily secure it manually while parts are ordered for a panel or full-door replacement. We document damage on-site and can provide a written repair report if you're filing a homeowners insurance claim.
